Spent the afternoon slaving over the Dead Guy clone. Now I'm going to sit down and watch THE Ohio State University handle Kansas. While I do that, here's the recipe for the clone. I'll post a review when it's time to crack one open in a month or so. Also big shout out to my local brew shop Paradise Brewing Supplies for the kit. I typically don't buy pre-packaged kits any more, but I was in a hurry this time and they just happened to have exactly the recipe I was looking for. Here goes.
2 lb Light DME
5 lb light LME (add with 15 min left in the boil)
1 lb caramunich malt
1 lb carapils
.5 lb crystal malt (40)
2 oz Columbus hops (60 minutes)
1 oz Mt. Ranier hops (5 minutes)
Dry ale yeast
Smelled good brewing. Got the typical jabs from my lovely wife about stinking up the house, so I must have done something right.

And I have hops...
Thanks to my friends over at That Honey-Do List I'm now the happy owner of 3 varieties of hops plants. And they're actually alive! I'll be posting more pictures as things progress, but here are the first shoots from the newport plant.
It's brew day!
Finally I've found a day when the weather sucks and the to do list is short enough to work in some brewing. So this afternoon while the kids are at a birthday part I'll be attempting a recipe that should be pretty close the Dead Guy Ale from Rogue. More to come later.

Actin' like a fool with my hops in the ground
It's early, but this has been a weird winter and when hop plants show up at your house you do what you have to. That being said we're trying our hand at growing hops this year. 5 plants- 3 varieties. I'll post updates as they come.
Also, it's baseball season. Check out one of my favorite blogs about my favorite team over here.
